Title: From Clipboards to Control:

How Brodosplit Digitized Quality Assurance .

The Customer:

Brodosplit, one of Europe's most historic and capable shipyards, located in Split, Croatia, specializing in the construction of complex and specialized vessels.

The Challenge:

Managing the thousands of paper-based Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) required for a single newbuild project was a massive administrative bottleneck. This manual process risked delays, made it difficult to provide clients with real-time progress reports, and created the potential for costly rework if a quality check was missed.

The Solution:

Brodosplit implemented PRIME Marine's Forms Manager module as their central platform for all Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) documentation.

KEY RESULTS:

90% Reduction in time spent on administrative filing and retrieval of QA reports.

Accelerated project milestone sign-offs by an average of 15%.

Created a 100% digital, photographic evidence trail for all critical quality checks.

Eliminated rework caused by missed or undocumented inspections.

The Challenge: The Immense Burden of Paper-Based Quality Control

Building a modern vessel is a monumental task involving thousands of critical quality checks, each documented in an Inspection & Test Plan (ITP). For Brodosplit, managing this process with paper was a major operational challenge.

"For a single vessel, you are dealing with a mountain of paper," says Mr. Ivan Petrović, Head of Quality Assurance at Brodosplit. "A QA inspector would take a clipboard and a camera to the construction block. He'd fill out the ITP, take separate photos, and then spend hours back in the office trying to combine them into a report. That report would then need to be physically signed by a supervisor, then the client's representative. A single lost paper could halt the entire next stage of production."

This manual workflow created significant problems:

  • Project Delays: The "paper-chase" for approvals was a constant bottleneck, slowing down the sign-off of critical project milestones.
  • Risk of Rework: A missed or poorly documented inspection could lead to extremely expensive rework later in the construction process.
  • Lack of Client Transparency: Providing a shipowner's site team with a real-time, consolidated view of the project's quality status was nearly impossible.

“Our quality has always been our pride. But our process for documenting that quality was inefficient and created risk. We needed a system that was as robust and modern as the vessels we build.”

Head of Quality Assurance, Brodosplit

The Solution: A Digital Workflow for a Modern Shipyard

Brodosplit chose PRIME Marine's Forms Manager to transform their QA/QC process from a paper-based system into a streamlined, digital workflow.

1. A Central Library of Digital ITPs: They digitized their entire library of ITPs and quality checklists in the Forms Manager. Every test, from a weld inspection to a tank pressure test, had a standardized digital form.

2. On-the-Spot, Evidence-Based Reporting: Their QA inspectors were equipped with ruggedized tablets. They could now complete the ITP directly at the worksite, and crucially, the form required them to attach mandatory, time-stamped photos for each critical checkpoint.

3. Automated Approval Workflows: Once an inspector submitted a completed form, it was automatically routed through a digital approval workflow. The supervisor would get an instant notification to review it. Once they signed off, it would be routed to the client's representative for their final digital signature.

“The change was immediate,” says Mr. Petrović. “The approval for a critical weld inspection, which used to take a full day of walking paper around the yard, now takes less than an hour. The entire process is transparent.”

The Results: A New Era of Efficiency, Transparency, and Trust

By digitizing their quality control, Brodosplit achieved significant gains that impacted their projects, their team, and their clients.

1. Accelerated Project Milestones The elimination of the paper-based approval bottleneck had a direct impact on their production schedule. By speeding up the verification and sign-off process, they were able to accelerate key project milestones by an average of 15%.

2. A Perfect, Photographic Evidence Trail The mandatory photo evidence created an irrefutable, digital record of quality. This eliminated rework caused by undocumented checks and gave both management and clients complete confidence that every step was completed to the required standard.

3. Enhanced Client and Class Confidence During project reviews, Brodosplit could now provide a shipowner or a Class surveyor with a complete, digital "build book" of every single quality check, complete with photographic proof and a full signature audit trail. This new level of transparency became a powerful tool for building client trust.

“PRIME Marine's Forms Manager has become the backbone of our quality assurance. It has reduced our administrative burden, eliminated delays, and gives our clients a level of transparency they have never seen before. It is a modern tool for a modern shipyard.”
